The hook eye is embedded into the mold to reduce the chance of bottom snagging. The shank on the fishing hook provides a double keeper system, upper and lower, to hold plastics securely. The monofilament weed guard is just the right tension for reducing snags but not impeding the hooks ability to penetrate the fish.
